This is how Daniele Ganser, Senior Researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich, Switzerland puts the case Aldo Moro (see also post Aldo Moro):
Upon his return to Italy (he had met Henry Kissinger in Washington in September 1974 M.B), Moro was sick for days and contemplated his complete withdrawal from politics. ’It’s one of the few occasions when my husband told me exactly what had been said to him, without telling me the name of the person concerned’, Moro’s wife Eleonora later tastified. ’I will try and repeat it now: „You must abandon your policy of bringing all the political forces in your country into direct collaboration. Either you give this up or you will pay dearly for it.“ In the national elections of June 1976, the PCI (Partito Communista Italiana) secured its best ever result at the polls, 34.4 per cent, and clearly defeated the DCI (Christian Democratic Party). Consequently, acting president of the DCI Aldo Moro found the courage to defeat the USA’s veto. On March16, 1978 he packed the documents of the ’historical compromise’ (compromesso storico) into his suitcase and ordered his driver as well as his bodyguards to bring him to the palace of the Italian parliament in Rome where he was determined to present the plan to include the Italian Communists in the executive. Moro’s car was approaching a crossroads, where Via Mario Fani meets Via Stresa in the residential suburb of Rome where he lived, when a white Fiat suddenly reversed around the corner and blocked the path. Moro’s driver had to break abruptly and the escort car following close behind rammed into the back of them. Two men from the white car and a further four who had been waiting in the street opened fire on Moro’s five bodyguards. Moro after his return from Washington had become uneasy and had asked for a bulletproof car, yet the request had been turned down. And thus the shots went through the car and his bodyguards were killed right away. One was able to return two shots but together with the two other bodyguards still alive was finished off at close range. Moro himself was captured and held hostage in central Rome for 55 days. Thereafter Moro’s bullet ridden body was found in the boot of an abandoned car in central Rome symbolically parked halfway between the headquarters of the DCI and the headquarters of the PCI.
Italy was in schock. The military secret service and acting Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti immediately blamed the left-wing terrorist organisation Red Brigades for the crime and cracked down on the left. 72,000 roadblocks were erected and 37,000 houses were searched. More than 6 million people were questioned in less than two months. While Moro was held captive his wife Eleonora spent days in agony together with her closest family and friends and even asked the Pope Paul VI, a long-standing friend of her husband for help. ’He told me he would do everything possible and I know he tried, but he found a lot of opposition.’
Captured Moro himself understood that he was the victim of a political crime in which the political right and the United States were instrumentalising the Red Brigades. In his last letter he requested that nobody of the corrupt DCI was to be present at his funeral. ’Kiss and caress everyone for me, face by face, eye by eye, hair by hair’, he wrote to his wife and his children fully aware that he was going to die. ’To each I send an immense tenderness through your hands. Be strong, my sweet, in this absurd and incomprehensible trial. These are the ways of the Lord. Remember me to all our relatives and friends with immense affection, and to you and all of them I send the warmest embrace as the pledge of my eternal love. I would like to know, with my small, mortal eyes, how we will appear to one another afterwards.’
The Senate commission investigating Gladio and the massacres suspected the CIA and the Italian military secrete service including ist Gladio hit squads to have organised the Moro crime. It therefore reopened the case but found with much surprise that almost all files on the Moro kidnapping and murder had mysteriously disappeared from the archives of the Ministry of the Interior. The files contained all official logs of phone calls, letters which had been exchanged between Moro and the government, contacts with the security forces and minutes of meetings made during the 55 days of Moro’s kidnapping. The Senate commission sharply criticised that ’the documents of the crisis committee of the Interior Ministry disappeared’, highlighted that ’the reflection on the Moro affair must be seen inserted in an evaluation of a broader contest’ as ’the phenomena must be considered in the historical reality of the period’ and concluded that the Moro assasination was ’a criminal project in which the Red Brigades most probably were instruments of a larger political framework.’

This is QRT’s house in Konstanz. Here he grew up and lived till he went to Berlin in the middle of the 1980ies (For those of you who haven’t got any idea who QRT is, see post HERE COMES QRT). I strolled around QRT’s house recently and what came out is this little film. The text is taken out of QRT’s essay about serial killing: JAGDSAISON - Serial Killing in Berlin, Tekknologic Tekknowledge Tekgnosis, Merve Verlag Berlin 1999.

Aldo Moro has been killed 30 years ago. I started to collect articles about the Moro case in international media. I will update this post regularly - because this will take me some time.
ZEIT Artikel of March 21 “Aldo Moros Schatten” (Brigate Rosse are guilty. Gladio is mentioned but called “Verschwörungstheorie” conspiracy theory.)
SPIEGEL (einestages) “Mein Blut komme über euch” vom 07.05.2008 (Gladio and CIA are mentioned, also a source saying that Brigate Rosse had been instrumentalized by secret services. The author calls the case not solved so far.
Berliner Zeitung vom 09.052008 “Italiens vorgezogener 11. September” compares the effect of the Moro case for Italy with 9/11. Brigate Rosse killed Moro, but other theories are called conspiracy theories. Even though CIA and Propaganda Due are mentioned. It’s also said that Andreotti might have played a strange role in the game…
German Junge Welt on May 3 2008 “Der Coup der P2 Loge” calls NATO’s secret army Gladio and P2 (Propaganda Due) responsible for the murder.
An Interview with former Italian Prime Minister and President Francesco Cossiga on Euronews who basically says: of course ther Brigate Rosse killed Aldo Moro.
Jesus Centeno starts his article “la verdad sobre el caso Aldo Moro” published on publico.es March 16, 2008 with a quoting of meanwhile dead Gianni Agnelli (Fiat): “We will know nothing about his murderers as long as they are alive. The Brigate Rosse? No, no, they have executed him, yes, but they were not the real protagonists.” In the following the article tries to uphold this theory.
Another spanish article published on terra. es March 16 2008 “El sequestro Aldo Moro, 30 anos de incognitas sin resolver” lists up new publications about the Mora case
French Nouvel Observateur May 10 2008 tells how Italy is coping with the 30 years anniversary “L’Italie commémore le meurte d’Aldo Moro”
Italian tgcom has got an article online which doesn’t even mention the possibility that anyone else besides Brigate Rosse could have been responsible for the murder of Aldo Moro. The article lists up the events of different Italian cities on May 9.
La Repubblica in it’s article “Giorno della memoria per Moro - Napolitano: Tragedia de Paese” basically tells about the ceremony in Rome: Italy against terrorism - Brigate Rosse killed Moro. Basta.
il Giornale goes “Napolitano: basta tribune tv agli ex terroristi“, quotes a lot of Napolitano’s speech and says that in the end of the ceremony everybody was satisfied… well.
Il Senato della Repubblica put the documents of the Moro case online. Here’s the link.

It’s one of the big scandals in the history of German TV: Peter Kahane’s film “Die Architekten” (1990) is one of the last films produced by East German DEFA Studios. “Die Architekten” relentlessly critizises GDRs status quo. It’s not just a great film but also a document of German history - and it has been shown on German TV only a couple of times! What happened to this film after the reunification tells a lot about how GDR history was dealt with in Germany after 1989: GDR citiziens didnt’t want to get bothered with this old stuff. They were busy exploring promising west - and west Germans just ignored it. So this is director Peter Kahane talking about his film:

QRT actually Markus Konradin Leiner was a German philosopher, barkeeper in Berlins famous EX’n POP, martial artist and junkie. He was born in 1965 in Konstanz and died in Berlin 1996 of an heroin overdose. Publications (amongst others): “Dabei wollen wir doch Mörder bleiben” in: Ralf Bohn, Dieter Fuder (Hg.): Baudrillard: Simulation und Verführung, München 1994; “Elemente der Verführung” in: Eckhard Hammel (Hg.): Synthetische Welten, Essen 1996; “The Text As Chainsaw Massacre (with Frank Wulf) in: Michael Farin, Hans Schmid (Hg.): Ed Gein - A Quiet Man, München 1996
After his death Merve Verlag Berlin published four books of QRT:
Schlachtfelder der elektronischen Wüste - Schwarzkopf, Schwarzenegger, Black Magic Johnson (1999)
Tekknologic Tekknowledge Tekgnosis - Ein Theoremix (1999)
Drachensaat - Der Weg zum nihilistischen Helden (2000)
Zombologie Teqste (2006)
I’ll porvide you with more information about QRT’s life, work and death soon. The scene above is taken out of Oskar Roehler’s film debut Gentleman (1995). QRT, who played the leading part in this (very trashy) Berlin version of American Psycho, did actually take heroin ‘on camera’.
This is tazblog about QRT (in German). And this is what erratik-institut collected about him after his death (in German).
